The Primer '97 experiment was conducted to study the acoustic scattering and oceanography of shelfbreak fronts in the Winter and to compare these results with the Primer '96 experiment we conducted the previous summer in the same place. This web site was a "real-time" link from the research vessel to show what was happening at that time at the Primer Shelfbreak site, or, in other words, "what it was like to be on a ship in the northern Atlantic in the winter". The dates on the left border give the day to day account of what transpired at sea and the photo album contains the pictures that were taken during the cruise. Participants in this experiment included Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Naval Postgraduate School, University of Rhode Island, Harvard University, and Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
