| The red arrow above points to the time that this audio clip was recorded. This is the sound of a common light bulb imploding due to the pressure of the water at about 30 meters depth. This breaking light bulb was about 600 meters away from the hydrophone that recorded it. Over 50 light bulbs were weighted and dropped into the water forming a circle around the "Shark of Science" hydrophone array. We use this sound to determine the actual positions of all 32 hydrophones on the the array, by calculating the intersection of all the acoustic paths from each bulb to a certain hydrophone. |
